Peripheral demyelination

What it means

A loss of myelin from the internode regions along myelinated nerve fibers of the peripheral nervous system.

This feature is generally diagnosed on the basis of a sural nerve biopsy. Demyelination is associated with slowed nerve conduction, increased refractoriness, and conduction block.
