Episcleritis

What it means

Inflammation of the episclera, a thin layer of tissue covering the white part (sclera) of the eye.

In contrast to conjunctivitis, with episcleritis the inflammation is generally limited to isolated parts of the sclera and is not diffuse.One can observe dilated episcleral blood vessels between regions of white sclera.
