Elevated urinary collagen degradation products
HP:0033384
What it means
Increased level in the urine of a metabolite that results from collagen degradation, e.g., a fragment of a collagen produced by a collagenase or serine protease.
Bone undergoes continuous remodeling because of the activity of osteoblasts (bone formation) and osteoclasts (bone resorption). Collagen degradation products may be considered as biochemical markers of bone resorption.
