Intramural intestinal gas

HP:6000377

What it means

The presence of extraluminal gas within the bowel wall.

In a symptomatic postoperative patient such a finding on plain radiology or computerized tomography (CT) is often viewed as a signal of impending or actual acute mesenteric ischaemia especially when associated with portal venous gas.

The range is how often this sign appears among people diagnosed with each disease — it is not a probability of having any of them. Many of these signs also occur in common, non-rare conditions. A sign on this page is a conversation to have with a clinician, not a conclusion.
