Central nervous system cyst

HP:0030724

What it means

A fluid-filled sac (cyst) located within the central nervous system.

Cysts of CNS are usually maldevelopmental in nature, but in some cases are acquired. The recognition of these cysts radiologically and confirmation by pathology is essential for prognostic purposes.

The range is how often this sign appears among people diagnosed with each disease — it is not a probability of having any of them. Many of these signs also occur in common, non-rare conditions. A sign on this page is a conversation to have with a clinician, not a conclusion.
