Specialized Telecommunications Assistance Program (STAP)

State

This program helps you get equipment to communicate over the phone if you are deaf, hard of hearing, have trouble speaking or are deaf-blind.

About this program

This program helps you get equipment to communicate over the phone if you are deaf, hard of hearing, have trouble speaking or are deaf-blind. If you qualify, you can get help buying a phone that:

  • Has a loud ringer
  • Has large buttons
  • Is labeled in Braille
  • Is powered by your voice

You can also get help buying a teletypewriter. A teletypewriter is a machine you connect to your phone that lets you type a message to an operator. The operator then reads it to the person you are calling.
