Wyoming Property Tax Deferral Program

State

The Property Tax Deferral Program lets you delay paying your property taxes for as long as you own and live in the same home. You can get help if you are 62 years of age or older or have a disability. If you do not meet the age or disability guidelines, you can still get help if you have limited income.

About this program

How can this program help me?

The Property Tax Deferral Program can give you extra time to pay property taxes on your primary residence (home). It does not cancel the property taxes you owe. You may be able to defer (delay) up to half of your annual tax bill. You can delay the payment of your property tax for as long as you own and live in the same home. The delayed taxes must be repaid to the state if you sell or transfer your residence, or if the county orders payment.

Can I get help from this program?

You may be able to take part in this program if you:

  • Own your home and use it as your primary residence
  • Live in a county that takes part in this program
  • Are 62 years of age or older or have a disability
  • Have limited income (the level allowed is set by your county)

You cannot apply for a tax deferral on additional homes you own in the state, such as vacation homes or rental properties. If you have a reverse mortgage, contact your lender to see if they will let you take part in this program.

Please note:If you are currently getting a property tax deferral or plan on applying for a deferral, you cannot apply for the Property Tax Refund program. The Property Tax Refund provides a refund on some of the property taxes you have paid.

How do I get help?

To find out how to apply, contact your local tax office or visit the program website.
