The City of Boston can help you get a volunteer position to lower some of the local property taxes you owe. With the Work-Off program, you can work in a City department that needs help and earn credit towards your tax. You can take part in this program if you are age 60 or older with limited income.

About this program

How can this program help me?

This program lets you do volunteer work for the City to lower your property taxes if you are a qualifying older adult. Through the Work-Off program, you can work within a City department that needs volunteer help. In return, you can earn money to put towards your yearly tax bill. For each hour you work, you are credited no more than the current minimum wage.

How do I get help?

Please contact the Boston Elderly Commission Coordinator to find out how to apply.
