Louisiana Special Assessment Level Program
State
This program limits how much your home's assessed (taxable) value can increase each year. To get help from this program, you must meet the income guidelines set by the program and be 65 years of age or older or have a disability. You can also apply if you are a veteran and have a service-connected disability or, in certain cases, if you are a surviving spouse (who has not remarried).
About this program
How can this program help me?
This program can reduce the amount of property tax you pay if you are a qualifying older adult. It puts a “freeze” on the assessed (taxable) value of the home you own and live in. The assessed value is the dollar amount used to decide how much you will have to pay in property taxes.
This means that if the value of the home increases, you will still pay taxes on the lower value as long as you continue to qualify for this benefit program. There are some exceptions, such as if you make major improvements to the home that increase the value.
How do I get help?
