The FAIR Plan - Texas

State

If your property is "high risk" and you cannot get home insurance through private companies, you may be able to get coverage from the Texas Fair Access to Insurance Requirements (FAIR) Plan. The FAIR Plan can provide insurance for your home and the contents of your home.

About this program

Finding affordable property insurance can be difficult if you have been denied coverage by regular insurance companies. The Texas FAIR Plan provides basic property insurance to eligible homeowners, renters, and business owners who are unable to get coverage through the regular insurance market. The program helps make sure Texans have access to essential property insurance when other options are not available.

What kind of insurance can I get through the Texas FAIR Plan?

The Texas FAIR Plan offers basic property insurance for eligible Texas residents who are unable to get coverage through regular insurance companies. The type of policy you receive depends on your needs, such as whether you own a home, rent, or live in a condominium.

Coverage may include:

-

Dwelling coverage: Helps pay to repair or rebuild your home and certain structures on your property if they are damaged by a covered event.

-

Personal property coverage: Helps cover your belongings, such as furniture, clothing, and appliances.

-

Loss of use coverage: May help pay additional living expenses if your home cannot be lived in while repairs are being made.

-

Personal liability coverage: Helps protect you if you are responsible for someone else’s injury or property damage.

-

Medical payments coverage: Helps pay certain medical expenses if someone is injured on your property.

Texas FAIR Plan policies provide coverage for certain events, such as fire, lightning, windstorm, hail, explosion, smoke damage, vandalism, and other covered losses. Coverage options and limits vary depending on the type of policy you have.

-

Your property is located in Texas

You may not qualify for Texas FAIR Plan coverage if:
