The FAIR Plan - Delaware
State
If you are not able to get homeowners insurance from private insurance companies, you may be able to get coverage through the Delaware Fair Access to Insurance Requirements (FAIR) Plan. The FAIR Plan provides insurance for your home and your personal belongings when other coverage options are not available.
About this program
If you live in Delaware and have had trouble getting homeowners or property insurance, the Delaware Fair Access to Insurance Requirements (FAIR) Plan may be able to help. This program gives people a way to get basic property insurance coverage when regular insurance companies won’t insure their home or business—often because it’s considered “high risk.”
The FAIR Plan is managed by the Insurance Placement Facility of Delaware and helps ensure that homeowners have access to essential protection for their property.
What kind of insurance can I get from the Delaware FAIR Plan?
The Delaware FAIR Plan offers two types of insurance coverage:
- Habitational Property plan (for homes): The Habitational Property plan helps protect your home from certain types of damage. Coverage includes damage caused by fire, vandalism, and other events such as windstorms, hail, explosions, smoke, and damage from vehicles or aircraft.
- Commercial Property plan (for businesses): The Delaware FAIR Plan offers basic property insurance for eligible business buildings and commercial properties. Coverage includes damage caused by fire, lightning, explosions, windstorms, hail, smoke, vandalism, and leaking sprinkler systems. It also covers damage caused by aircraft, vehicles, riots or civil commotion, sinkhole collapse, and volcanic action.
Note:Vandalism and sprinkler leak coverage are not available for vacant or unoccupied properties or buildings under construction. The Delaware FAIR Plan also does not cover damage from other causes or losses such as lost income or business interruption.
