Benefit program

Disability Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE)

State

This program keeps you from paying a rent increase if you live in a rent regulated apartment. You can apply if you are 18 or older, disabled, live in a rent regulated apartment within New York City, and have limited income . The rent you currently pay must be more than one-third of your household’s monthly income.

About this program

This program can prevent certain rent increases. If you are a qualifying person with a disability and you live in a rent regulated apartment, your rent may be frozen. Your landlord will receive tax credits to make up for the difference between what you pay and the regular rent.

How do I apply?

To apply for this program, you can print and fill out the application form and mail it to your local office.
