Expanded In-Home Services for the Elderly Program (EISEP)

State

The Expanded In-Home Services for the Elderly Program (EISEP) can help you with nonmedical in-home services, such as case management, housekeeping, personal care, respite care, and a personal emergency response system. You can take part in this program if you are 60 years of age or older and need help with everyday activities.

About this program

The Expanded In-home Services for the Elderly Program (EISEP) provides services for older adults who need help with personal care or household chores. These services can help you stay independent and safely remain in your home and community.

How does the Expanded In-home Services for the Elderly Program (EISEP) work?

The Expanded In-home Services for the Elderly Program (EISEP) provides non-medical services for older adults who are not eligible for similar services through Medicaid. These services are designed to help older adults remain safely at home and may also support family caregivers. Local Area Agencies on Aging across New York manage EISEP services in their communities.

EISEP offers four types of services:

1. Case Management: A trained case manager can help you understand your needs, manage services, monitor your care, and connect you with community resources.

2. In-Home Assistance: This service helps you with personal care and household chores. In-home assistance falls into two categories:

-

Personal Care I is help with activities such as housekeeping, cooking, and shopping. This service is also called Instrumental Activities of Daily Living.

-

Personal Care II includes all Personal Care I services, plus help with things like bathing, dressing, and grooming. This service is also called Activities of Daily Living.

3. Noninstitutional Respite: Noninstitutional respite gives caregivers a short break from caregiving duties. With this service, you may attend a social day program or receive in-home personal care services so your caregiver has time to rest and recharge.

4. Ancillary Services: These may include assistive devices, small home modifications, or other supports that help you remain safely at home.

Am I eligible for EISEP?

To be eligible for EISEP, you must:

-

Be age 60 or older

-

Need assistance with daily activities based on an assessment by your local agency

-

Be able to live safely in the community with support services

-
