About this program

This program offers services that help you continue to be independent if you are deaf or hard of hearing. An Independent Living Specialist will work with you to get the services you will need in your community and life situations. Services may include:

  • Training on different independent living skills, such as using assistive technology, communication skills, managing money for daily needs, finding a job, and finding support groups
  • Participation in recreational groups and other activities
  • Peer mentoring programs
  • Help getting a loan for or borrowing assistive communication equipment, such as TTY machines, caption decoders, and one-to-one listening devices
  • Getting information on and referral to other services in your community
