This program offers services to help you stay independent, prepare for employment, or keep the job you have if you are blind or have low vision. Depending on the services you need, you may have to meet other program guidelines as well.
About this program
Blind Services can help you stay independent, prepare for employment, or keep the job you have if you are blind or have low vision. Services may include:
- Evaluation of your abilities by figuring out what you can do on your own and what you may have a hard time doing
- Orientation and mobility instruction that teaches you how to travel independently around your home, workplace, and community
- Assistive technology equipment or devices you can use to help with daily activities, such as eating, bathing, and cooking; communication aids for hearing; speaking devices; and wheeled scooters
- Vocational guidance, career counseling, and training services
- Help with job placement into suitable employment
- Personal assistance services, such as a scribe to write for you, a reader, or a personal care attendant
You can also get services through other programs such as the Randolph-Sheppard Business Enterprise Program and Older Blind/Visually Impaired Program.
