Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) - New Mexico

State

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) can provide you with certain foods at no cost. You may be able to get help from this program if you are 60 years of age or older, meet the program guidelines, and live in a county or community that offers CSFP.

About this program

If you live in New Mexico and are at least 60 years old, you may be able to get a free monthly food box through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). Also called the Senior Food Box Program, CSFP helps older adults with low incomes get food to prepare meals at home.

Each box weighs about 40 pounds and contains a mix of shelf-stable foods. Getting a box each month can help you buy fewer groceries and save money for other needs.

How does the New Mexico Commodity Supplemental Food Program work?

Through CSFP, you can receive a box of food each month if you qualify. The food is meant to go along with the groceries you already have, rather than cover all your food needs for the month. It can help you prepare meals with more nutritious ingredients while spending less at the grocery store.

The food you receive may be different each month. Your box may contain items such as:

-

Canned fruits and vegetables

-

Canned meats, such as beef, pork, or beef stew

-

Pasta or rice

-

Dry beans or peanut butter

-

Fruit juice

-

Dry cereal

-

Cheese

-

Powdered or canned milk

Each box contains about $50 worth of food. You can also get food through CSFP if you receive benefits from another food assistance program, including SNAP.

Who can get help from the New Mexico Senior Food Box Program?

You may qualify for CSFP in New Mexico if you:

-

Are age 60 or older

-

Live in New Mexico

-

Can show a photo ID and proof of your age

-
