Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) - Idaho
State
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) can provide you with certain foods at no cost. You may be able to get help from this program if you are 60 years of age or older, meet the program guidelines, and live in a county or community that offers CSFP.
About this program
If you are 60 or older and live in Idaho, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) may help you get nutritious food for free. In Idaho, CSFP is also known as the Senior Food Box Program. It helps older adults with low incomes get extra food each month so they can make their groceries last longer.
If you qualify, you can get a food box each month. Each box weighs about 40 pounds and contains different foods that you can use to make meals at home.
How does the Idaho Commodity Supplemental Food Program work?
The Idaho Commodity Supplemental Food Program gives eligible older adults a box of food each month. The program provides nutritious foods from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to help supplement the food you already have.
CSFP is meant to add to your regular groceries, not replace them. The food box will not provide everything you need for the month, but it can help lower your grocery costs and give you more healthy foods to eat. In Idaho, you may also hear CSFP called the Senior Food Box Program.
The Idaho Commission on Aging works with the Idaho Foodbank to provide food boxes to eligible older adults. The foods in each box may change, but you can expect a mix of foods from several food groups. A food box may contain:
-
Canned fruits and vegetables
-
Canned meats, such as beef, pork, or beef stew
-
Pasta or rice
-
Dry beans or peanut butter
-
Fruit juice
-
Dry cereal
-
Cheese
-
Powdered or canned milk
You can receive a CSFP food box even if you get help from another food program, such as SNAP. Each food box contains about $50 worth of food.
