Employment – Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
Federal
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a federal law that provides funding for job centers and services that help people find work. Through these services, you can get the support and training needed to find a reliable job.
About this program
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a federal law that funds centers and services designed to help people find employment. It focuses on connecting people who need help finding work with the support and training needed to get stable, good-paying jobs.
How does WIOA work?
WIOA is managed by the U.S. Department of Labor and works by offering free or low-cost job and training services through local American Job Centers across the country. When you visit an American Job Center, staff will connect you to services that fit your needs. These services may include:
-
Help searching for jobs, writing a resume, and preparing for interviews
-
Career counseling
-
Training programs, including classroom learning or hands-on work experience
-
Employment workshops
-
Access to programs like Job Corps, The Adult & Dislocated Worker Program, and other specialized services
-
Support services, such as help with benefits like SNAP and Medicaid
American Job Centers also work with local employers, matching you with open positions and connecting businesses with trained workers.
Are there requirements for finding work through WIOA?
You don’t need to meet requirements for basic job help at an American Job Center, but you may need to qualify for specialized training programs or services. To learn more about possible requirements and what kind of help is available to you, contact your local American Job Center.
How do I get started?
To get started, find the American Job Center closest to you to learn what services and programs are available. Staff can guide you through your options, answer your questions, and help you take the next steps.
If you need help finding a center near you or have questions, you can call CareerOneStop’s employment and training helpline at 1-877-872-5627 or email info@CareerOneStop.org.
