This program provides respite care for caregivers through various programs and services. Respite care gives caregivers some relief from the stress of caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or related illnesses. For a caregiver to take part in this program, the person who has Alzheimer’s disease or dementia must show proof of their condition and have limited income and resources. That person cannot be enrolled in the Connecticut Homecare Program for Elders.

This program provides respite care for caregivers through various programs and services. Respite care gives caregivers some relief from the stress of caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or related illnesses. The program can provide you with helpful information and support and show you how to develop a plan of care.

Services are also provided to the person you are caring for, including:

  • Companions: A personal companion will spend time with the person who has memory loss.
  • Homemakers: This includes services such as housework, laundry, shopping, and running errands.
  • Adult day care: This lets the person with memory loss take part in social activities that happen outside of the home. Adult day care may also include health care services.
  • Home health aides: A professional can help with health needs such as checking blood sugar or giving medication.
  • Short-term stays: This service provides skilled nursing care or a short-term stay in a nursing facility, residential care home, or assisted living community.

Please note: You may be placed on a waiting list before you can get help from the program.
