What it means
Pathologic deposits of specific fibrillar protein aggregates with distinct microscopic properties, particularly affinity for the dye Congo red with typical birefringence.
Amyloid deposition is associated with amyloidosis, the pathologic process or disease caused by the tissue deposition of amyloid, often leading to organ dysfunction. This term, and its descendents, refer to the amyloid deposition (the phenotypic feature). Other clinical manifestations of amyloidosis should be coded separately.
