Drug interactions
Aspirin has several drug interactions that can enhance effects or diminish effectiveness of other medications.
- moderatemonoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors — enhanced CNS effects
- majororal anticoagulants — causing bleeding
- moderateoral antidiabetic agents and insulin — causing hypoglycemia
- major6-mercaptopurine and methotrexate — causing bone marrow toxicity and blood dyscrasias
- majornon-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents — increasing the risk of peptic ulceration and bleeding
- majorother narcotic analgesics, alcohol, general anesthetics, tranquilizers, sedative-hypnotics, or other CNS depressants — causing increased CNS depression
- moderateuricosuric agents such as probenecid and sulfinpyrazone — reducing their effectiveness in the treatment of gout
