South Carolina Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption Program
State
The South Carolina Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption Program offers you a property tax exemption to help you lower the amount of property tax you pay. You may get help from this program if you are a veteran with 100% service connected disability or a surviving spouse.
About this program
The South Carolina Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption Program provides a full property tax exemption on an eligible Veteran’s home, up to 5 acres of land, and up to two private passenger vehicles owned or leased by the eligible Veteran (or qualifying spouse). This helps Veterans save money on housing costs, so they have more money for everyday living expenses.
## How does the South Carolina Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption Program work?
This program provides a full property tax exemption for Veterans with a service-connected disability. If you qualify, the exemption applies to your primary home and up to 5 acres of land, as well as up to two private passenger vehicles. Others who may be eligible for this property tax exemption include:
-
**Surviving spouses**: can receive the exemption if they remain unmarried and continue to occupy the home as their primary residence.
-
**Medal of Honor recipients and former Prisoners of War (POWs)**: can receive the exemption on their home and up to 1 acre of land, plus up to two vehicles.
Once granted the property tax exemption, you generally do not need to reapply unless your ownership changes or you move.
